We are very excited to announce that Jessica Sager, our co-founder and executive director, has been named the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 2012 Women in Business Champion of the Year for Connecticut.
The award validates All Our Kin’s innovative programs, which train, support, and sustain women as both business owners and educators. We are the only organization in Connecticut—and one of a handful in the country—to address both workforce development and child care. And we demonstrate, here in the United States, what international development experts and policymakers have long known; that investing in women as entrepreneurs and community leaders can have an enormous impact in low-income communities.
Jessica is delighted that the U.S. Small Business Administration recognizes All Our Kin’s work empowering women through small business ownership: “I am so excited and honored to receive the Small Business Administration’s 2012 Women in Business Champion of the Year award. Since All Our Kin’s founding in 1999, we have worked to empower women as educators and businesspeople. Now, in these difficult economic times, it is more important than ever that we recognize the work of women as small business owners. They’re sustaining, not only their family’s economic well-being, but our country’s.”
