At All Our Kin we, like the rest of the state, nation, and world, are heartbroken over the tragedy that occurred in Newtown, CT on Friday. We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims, and to the entirety of Newtown. There are no words adequate to describe the bravery shown by the teachers and administrators of Sandy Hook Elementary School who risked their lives, and in too many cases lost their lives, protecting the children in their care. The stories of courage and love that have emerged from a day of such unspeakable grief give us a renewed energy and commitment to honoring and supporting the amazing family child care providers we work with, as well as the many others who care for our community’s children.
As an organization committed to supporting children’s first teachers and ensuring that all children are safe, loved, and learning, we find special meaning in the words President Obama shared on December 16. We hope they resonate with you, as well:
There’s only one thing we can be sure of, and that is the love that we have for our children, for our families, for each other. The warmth of a small child’s embrace, that is true… We know we’re always doing right when we’re taking care of them, when we’re teaching them well, when we’re showing acts of kindness.
We don’t go wrong when we do that.
